On Friday evening our group was pleased to win the Outstanding Family Business Award at the DG Business Awards! The group was also nominated for the Outstanding Large business award as well as the DG Champion Business/Organisation in Developing the Young Workforce.
We are also thrilled to announce our very own Bob Beattie, NPD/Sales Support Manager, was the winner of the Individual Champion in Developing the Young Workforce. This is for all the work he has done within the community. Bob had previously been a chef with food development experience, and joined the team in 2015 and so has a wide knowledge of the food industry. He is able to spread this knowledge in a fun and exciting way that engages children from all ages.
The award ceremony was held by Dumfries and Galloway Chambers of Commerce in association with Developing the Young Workforce in Dumfries and Galloway. It gave us not only the chance to showcase ourselves as a business but also as a potential employer to young people coming out of education and looking for opportunities.
This is very important to our company as we encourage young people to pursue a career at Browns Food Group and to develop their skills. When joining Brown Brothers we offer all employees the opportunity to gain a Food and Drink SVQ. 3 different pathways can be taken depending on the operative’s department of work: Distribution Skills, Meat and Poultry Processing Skills and Production and Processing Skills. When the candidate successfully completes the SVQ, they are awarded with an SQA Certificate. Candidates are taken through their SVQ with the help of an Assessor.
Brown Brothers also work with SECTT for the apprenticeship programme we offer in Engineering.
Brown Brothers also offer summer employment to students and pupils during June-August. Students and pupils are given the opportunity to work in the factory and in the offices. This helps give them an idea of working life and helps them to support themselves during the next term.
